Splendour in the Grass is back, and they’re celebrating 20 years! Every year (ignore 2020) this festival has seen thousands of punters converge on the Northern Rivers region in New South Wales. This year it’s taking place on the 22nd, 23rd & 24th of July.
Over the course of the weekend, we generally see a massive increase in poncho and gumboot sales at the surrounding shops. Local accommodation is also booked out well in advance, particularly as this time of year is no stranger to a bit of rain. After a night of enjoying the sites and sounds of the festival, a solid roof over your head can be quite appealing. Festival goers will be embraced with open arms. This year in particular, due to the recent flooding events that saw massive and widespread damage to the region. Splendour is a great boost for the local economy. But more importantly, it will fill the air with a festive spirit, enough to lift anyone’s mood.
An Incredible Lineup
Without international travel over the past few years, we saw a focus on Australian artists. This appreciation is still evident in this year’s impressive lineup with the likes of the DMA’s, Violent Soho, and the—formerly Byron Bay local, now globe-trotting—Amyl & the Sniffers, to name a few. Though, with international travel come international artists. The headline acts include the Gorillaz, The Strokes and Tyler the Creator.
This will be one for the history books, particularly since we’ve had a seemingly never ending 2 year festival break.
So much room for activities!
It’s not just music that you can look forward to, however. Splendour has always had a wide range of activities to keep you entertained if you can’t dance any more. There are market stalls selling beautifully crafted wares from local vendors. There’s also a range of great talks, comedy shows and fun for the whole family!
The food at Splendour has also historically been top notch. Sure, you can bring some 2 minute noodles and eat them at the camp, or, you can enjoy a warm meal from a mind boggling range of global cuisines. Anything you could imagine, it’s skillfully prepared here. Though the food truck lineup does vary a little from year to year, there are many regulars that have become festival staples.
Making a Difference
Now, this wouldn’t be a Green Pack article if we didn’t mention the relevance of environmentally friendly packaging. It’s obvious that with so many people coming together in one place, waste is something that needs to be carefully considered. Festival organisers, as well as food stall holders have done an amazing job, and shown an incredible amount of initiative in this regard. Many festivals even sort their recycling, and process compost onsite.
This is part of a growing mentality within the events industry, as well as a firmly cemented ideology in the local region which is; ‘leave no trace’. Part of the appeal of a festival like Splendour in the Grass, is the beauty of the natural surroundings. Byron Shire as well as the rest of the Northern Rivers, is a tourist magnet for a reason. The natural environment is important to all the locals, so making sure our footprint is minimised, is of great importance.
We personally love the crew of volunteers tasked with collecting dropped recycling! We think this is a great initiative!
We’ve long been proudly supplying many stall holders at Splendour in the Grass with 100% compostable and 100% recyclable packaging. We stock compostable sugarcane cups for hot or cold beverages, Palm Leaf Bio Plates, recycled napkins, and wooden cutlery. Everything you would need for a busy takeaway service. The events and hospitality industries have had a rough few years.
Many businesses were forced to close their doors due to these hardships. However, those who were fortunate enough, adapted their service in ways which may lead to permanent change within the industries. One of the biggest and most positive changes we’ve seen is a conscious shift to environmentally friendly packaging solutions. We proudly stand behind our products, offering a wide range to suit all needs. Whether it’s the highest quality or the best price, you’ll find it here.
So, if you’re a stall holder at this year’s event, get in touch. We’ll help you find the best suited products for your business at the best price. We know it’s a busy time of year, but but don’t hesitate, as it’s always better to be prepared sooner rather than later.
